AIRBUS wrapped up the double in style with a 5-1 hammering of Holyhead Hotspur to clinch the League Cup in Conwy.

After storming to the Cymru Alliance title on the back of a dominant league campaign, the Flintshire club signed off with more silverware in front of a 427-strong crowd.

Delighted assistant manager Andy Thomas hailed the quality of his side’s second half display, in which the champions netted four times to seal victory.

He said: “After a scrappy first half on a bobbly pitch we really upped the tempo and went through the gears impressively.

“We created so many chances and could have put a few more away because we were so on top.

“The lads have produced another quality performance after a really successful season for the club.

“It was a great day for us and gives us something to build on for next season in the Welsh Premier.”

The Wingmakers made the best possible start as James Hooper put them ahead after 10 minutes when he beat his marker and fired into the bottom corner.

Ahead by a solitary goal at the break, Airbus were pegged back soon after the restart when Chris Jones headed Hotspur level from a corner.

Airbus rallied and regained the lead on 63 minutes as Hooper netted his second of the game, before talisman Asa Hamilton added a third for the Wingmen just three minutes later.

Hotspur keeper Carl Jones was then sent off after bringing down the on-rushing Lewis Buckley, with Airbus capitalising on their numerical advantage with late strikes from Ryan Edwards and substitute Harvey Ellis.
