HOLYWELL TOWN are beginning to deliver performances that supporters can be proud of again, says John Haseldin.

The Wellmen have hit a timely run of form to boost their survival chances, winning three of their last four games to heap pressure on their rivals.

Despite his side conceding a last-gasp equaliser in last weekend’s 3-3 draw at Penrhyncoch, Haseldin has been impressed by the ‘grit and determination’ shown in recent displays.

He said: “I’m proud of the way the lads have responded to the position we’ve found ourselves in.

“They’ve delivered some really gritty, hard-working performances to make sure we’re doing everything we can to get out of trouble.

“We were being written off by a lot of people a few months ago and I don’t think many expected us to be in with a chance of staying up at this stage.

“But I think our supporters are now seeing the effort and workrate they expect from us, and hopefully they’re proud of how hard we’re battling.

“To drop points in the way we did last weekend was massively frustrating, but we’ve gone away, dissected it and we move on now.

“There’s no time to dwell on these things - we have to use that result as a motivation for this weekend. Staying up is still in our hands and we know that two more wins keeps us up.”

The Wellmen visit Guilsfield on Saturday in their penultimate fixture of the campaign.

Nathan Leonard’s Guils side are now assured of sixth place after an impressive 2-0 win at Porthmadog last weekend.

And Haseldin expects ‘no favours’ from the Powys outfit, who are chasing a fourth successive league victory.

“They’re finishing really strongly and won’t want to sign off getting beat,” he added.

“Guilsfield have a style and system that works for them and I don’t expect them to change that in this game. It’s another battle for us and defensively we’ll have to stand up and be solid against their threats.

“But we know how important taking three points is this weekend and that’s the target.”

Niall McGuinness says Flint Town United have no room for complacency in their pursuit of a runners-up spot.

The third-placed Silkmen sign off from action at home to Prestatyn on Saturday looking to secure second place.

Frustrated by his side’s below-par showing in the defeat at Bangor last weekend, McGuinness has demanded focus from his side.

He said: “Maybe it was a bit of complacency on our part last week, but we can’t afford to ease off now when we’ve still got the chance of finishing higher in this division than we have in the last eight or nine years.

“It’s about laying a foundation for next season and giving ourselves something to build on. Porthmadog getting beaten last weekend was a bit of a shock, but it’s given us a chance to get ahead of them now.

“Prestatyn are a very good side and this is a tough final test for us, but we’re looking to finish on a high and make it a day to remember.”

Suspended central midfielder Brandon Burrows is the only absentee from an otherwise full-strength Flint squad.

After a turbulent season, Bangor City can finish among the top four with victory at Llanrhaeadr.
