GRESFORD ATHLETIC are out to recover from a ‘disgraceful’ performance when they head to relegation-threatened Penrhyncoch on Saturday.

The Colliers fell to their heaviest defeat of the season in a 6-0 mauling at Porthmadog last weekend, a result which left manager Steve Halliwell seething at his side’s below-par display.

And the Gresford boss has warned his squad that they will be playing for their futures in their remaining games.

He said: “What happened at Porthmadog was a disgrace. We reverted to a 3-5-2 system, which we’ve used earlier in the season, but the players looked like it was completely alien to them.

“We were four down by half-time and never looked like getting back into it. It was nowhere near good enough from anyone at the club - the players and me.

“We’ve had a very decent unbeaten run but the fact that we risk ending up in 11th or 12th place tells its own story about how the season’s ending for us.

“The players need to give us a big response at Penrhyncoch to at least get back some respectability after what’s gone on.

“It’s up to a lot of these lads to prove themselves now and show that they want to be here, otherwise we’ll move them on.”

Tom Freeman returns for Gresford, though Owen Roberts, Josh Griffiths and Jake Eyre all miss out.

Troubled Bangor City are in action on Friday night at home to fourth-placed Rhyl.

Saturday's other games see Conwy Borough host Ruthin Town, and Prestatyn Town head to Llanrhaeadr.
