HUW GRIFFITHS insists Cefn Druids 3-0 Newfa Challenge Cup victory over Corwen was "never in doubt".

A brace from Jack Kenny and Matty Owen's penalty secured Druids a place in the final of the competition, where they will face Cymru Alliance outfit Gresford Athletic.

It was a comfortable night's work for Druids at Bala Town's Maes Tegid, boss Griffiths saying: "It could have been a cricket score, and although we didn't get the goals we should have, we dominated.

"It was a very pleasing night for us and we were never in trouble during the game."

Griffiths, who managed to catch sight of a bottle of champagne in the Corwen changing room prior to kick-off, insists that the pre-match tension with their semi-final opponents was put to bed before the first whistle.

The Druids boss was angry that Corwen were unwilling to change the date of the game with Nathan Peate representing Wales C against England C on the same night.

"Tommy Mutton is on their management team and I spoke with him before kick-off," said Griffiths. "He said they would have changed the date of the game if I'd phoned, so that was all dealt with."

Niki-Lee Bulmer made his senior debut for Druids, who welcomed back defender Adam Hesp from his lengthy injury problems.

Griffiths said: "It was great to see Niki play and fantastic to have Adam back on the pitch for the last 15 or 20 minutes after he has been sidelined with an ankle injury for around 20 months."

On Druids' final opponents, Griffiths, who hails from Gresford, added: "I'm pleased to see my hometown club doing so well and being competitive.

"Steve (Halliwell) has done a great job as manager there. They've got pace and power and will be wanting to get one over us."
