GRESFORD ATHLETIC continued their habit of snatching dramatic equalisers as they left it late again in their 1-1 draw at Prestatyn Town.

With his side trailing to the 10-man Seasiders, Colliers midfielder Jack Chaloner scrambled home an 88th minute leveller at Bastion Gardens to extend the visitors’ unbeaten run to 12 games.

But Gresford boss Steve Halliwell was left to rue more wasteful finishing from his side, who created enough openings to have won the game comfortably.

He said: “We weren’t good enough in front of goal again and that’s been a familiar story lately. Owen Roberts has had a couple of decent chances before Jordan (McCarter) has missed a penalty, so it feels like we’ve let some great opportunities slip.

“We dominated after the sending off but didn’t capitalise on having an extra man.”

After an evenly-contested opening 40 minutes, Gresford spurned the chance to break the deadlock when McCarter (above) saw his spot-kick saved by Seasiders keeper Ryan Roberts after Chaloner was fouled in the box.

On the cusp of half-time the hosts were reduced to 10-men after Ian Griffiths was adjudged to have elbowed Gresford full-back Ben Burrows in the face.

Despite the setback, Prestatyn went ahead 10 minutes after the restart when Ben Maher’s corner was directed goalwards by Dan Roberts, with the ball deflecting off a Gresford defender before hitting the net.

The visitors upped the tempo immediately with McCarter crashing a well-struck effort against the upright, before Sam Pilkington twice went close.

Chaloner salvaged a point when he prodded home from close range after Lewis George’s effort had been blocked.
