A MATCH-WINNING performance wasn’t enough to spare Nathan Woolfe the ignominy of a post-match rendition of Peter Andre’s ‘Mysterious Girl’ in front of his Airbus team mates.

Woolfe, who is currently on-loan from Connah’s Quay Nomads, was named man of the match and netted the opener in a 2-0 victory at Penrhyncoch to help his side go nine points clear at the Cymru Alliance summit.

But as punishment for arriving late for the game, the 30-year-old winger was made to sing the 90’s hit in front of a packed clubhouse, with many of his clubmates recording the impromptu performance on their phones.

Assistant manager Andy Thomas said: “Nathan’s been excellent for us since coming in and is a great personality to have around the dressing room. He’d been late for training this week and then turned up late for the game so the lads made him do a forfeit.

“He took everything in good spirits after the game and it was great to see all the lads with smile on their faces after a solid result at a tough away ground.”

Following a strong start to the contest from the visitors, Woolfe fired them ahead on 16 minutes with a clinical finish from inside the box after some neat build-up play.

And that advantage was doubled just after the half hour mark when Asa Hamilton’s neat chip into the Penrhyncoch box was headed home from six yards out by strike-partner Lewis Buckley.

As the weather deteriorated in the second half, Airbus were happy to sit in and preserve their two-goal lead with Airbus keeper Dave Roberts barely troubled by the home attack.

The result pushed the Airmen ever closer to a Welsh Premier League return, with just six games remaining this term.

Thomas added: “I felt we dominated for the first half and we could’ve been three or four up at the break f we’d been a bit more clinical.

“But we won our battles all over the and kept another clean sheet, which is 15 for the season now.

“With six games left we’re in a really healthy position and we’re all focused on the run-in now.”

Frustration was the overriding emotion for Flint Town United boss Niall McGuinness after his side were held to a goalless draw by visitors Bangor City.

The Silkmen’s faint title hopes now look even bleaker after a youthful City side showed their defensive resolve in the stalemate at Cae-y-Castell.

Flint enjoyed the better of the first half as Ieuan Hewitt sent an early effort narrowly wide of the target, before Mark Cadwallader failed to connect with Andy Brown’s whipped cross.

The second half was low on quality, with Cadwallader spurning the hosts’ best chance of a winner late on as he fired wide after Richie Foulkes had headed back across goal.

A seventh draw of the campaign now means that second-placed Flint must overhaul a nine-point deficit in their remaining six games to draw level with Airbus.

McGuinness said: “It’s disappointing that we couldn’t find a way to win the game. Credit to Bangor, who’ve faced a lot of problems recently, they came here and set up with two banks of four to contain us.

“But they still had five or six experienced heads in there and made it tough for us.The fact we didn’t convert our chances in the first half gave them something to hold onto and they certainly did that in the second.

“There wasn’t much quality on show from either side but I’m frustrated that we haven’t shown more in attack after we struggled to get into any kind of rhythm.”
