ANDY MORRISON insists Connah’s Quay Nomads will be “relentless” in their quest for silverware this season.

Nomads created history last weekend when they beat Edinburgh City 5-4 on penalties to become the first Welsh team to reach the final of the Scottish Challenge Cup.

But next month’s final will be put on the backburner with Nomads facing a crunch six days as they look to keep their multiple domestic trophy hopes alive.

Table-topping Nomads make their way to title rivals Barry Town United, who they are yet to beat this season after following up a 1-0 away defeat with a 2-2 home draw, on Saturday night, before they entertain Bala Town in a rearranged league fixture on Tuesday.

And a busy fixture schedule is completed next Friday when they head to Caernarfon Town in the quarter-finals of the Welsh Cup.

Morrison said: “I’ve got to build my lads into a frenzied attack down at Barry, that’s how we’ve got to go about it.

“We’ve got to be relentless.

“Yes, at times, we are slightly unorthodox. Yes, we find ways to win games of football, but we are relentless.”

Morrison and first team coach Craig Harrison were at Park Hall as Barry Town United snatched a 2-2 draw with fellow title challengers The New Saints courtesy of Jonathan Hood’s stunning 96th minute free-kick.

Saints could have been out of sight if they’d taken their chances, but Barry showed a resilience to secure a valuable point in the race for the title.

Morrison continued: “I was at TNS. There was a 96th minute equaliser and it was a 2-2 hammering, because TNS annihilated them.

“But that goal will give them such a pick up and such a spring in their step.”

Just three points separate the top three with eight games of the season remaining, and stopper John Danby is relishing a crucial week of action.

Danby said: “You look at TNS versus Barry. TNS dominated, but Barry have got a great team spirit down there and they’ve grabbed a 96th minute equaliser.

“It keeps it tight. It’s going to go down to the last few games I think.

“We’ve got a really tough week coming up with three games in six games.

“We are going to have to dig deep and get through the next week, but we can do it because we’ve got a great squad.

“The gaffer and the players won’t allow anyone to relax.”

On the trip to Jenner Park, a venue where Nomads followed up last season’s 1-0 win with a 2-0 defeat back in September, Danby said: “They are a good team.

“It’s a bit of a trek down there and I think we’ve won one, lost one at their place since they came up.

“We can only go and do what we need to do and hopefully that’s enough to get the win we want.”
