HOLYWELL TOWN must build on their best performance of the season when they host Buckley Town on Friday night, says Dave Sweet.

The relegation-threatened Wellmen were just seconds from a crucial three points at Gresford last weekend, before an injury-time leveller earned the hosts a 1-1 draw.

The result left Holywell 14th in the table and three points adrift of safety heading into the final six weeks of the campaign.

Assistant manager Sweet insists his side cannot afford to dwell on their latest setback and expects an even stronger display.

He said: “We know we’re not a bottom three side and the players know that too.

"The belief is there that we can get out of this situation and Johnny (Haseldin) and me have so much confidence in this group of players.

“The Gresford result was really tough to take because we dominated the game from start to finish and deserved more from it.

“On another day we’d be coming away with a win and the message to the players at full time was not to focus on the negatives.

“But there were a lot of good elements to our play and ultimately that could be a point that keeps us up this season.

“Friday night is a chance for us to show we can maintain those performance levels against another good side because Buckley are a solid unit.

"They’re well-drilled, they can work the ball from back to front quickly and are a threat from set-pieces.

"We’ll be ready, and if we can make the right decisions in front of goal I’m confident we can win.”

Buckley boss Dan Moore believes that competition for places is helping his side thrive this term.

Currently in the midst of a four-game unbeaten run, the mid-table Bucks have impressed in a solid return to the Welsh second tier.

But Moore has warned against complacency and expects a stern test from ‘quality’ opposition at Halkyn Road.

He said: “It feels like we’ve got really good depth here and the competition for places is as strong as it’s been since I’ve been here.

"That’s certainly helped us pick up some good results lately and the little run we’ve put together was much-needed after some of the points we’d dropped before that.

“But Holywell away will be really difficult. You could say that their need for a win is greater than ours, so we have to be ready for a big performance from them.”

“They’ve strengthened the squad with some really decent additions and have quality attackers like (Damian) Ketley, (Steve) Lewis and (Mark) Winslade who can hurt teams.”

Buckley are at full strength for the clash, while Holywell striker Sam Jones returns from suspension and Zebb Edwards could feature after returning to the club from Llandudno.
