GUILSFIELD boss Nathan Leonard has hit back after the club's Clos Mytton pitch was likened to a 'farmer's field'.

Airbus assistant manager Andy Thomas made the comparison after the Wingmakers were held to a 1-1 draw in Saturday's Cymru Alliance clash.

A late own goal by Airbus defender Phil Clarke condemned the visitors to a third successive draw, which saw their lead at the summit cut to seven points.

Frustrated by the playing conditions, Thomas suggested that tractor marks were visible on the pitch and that the quality of the game was affected as a result

Those claims are refuted by Leonard, who highlighted the quality of the Airbus squad instead before praising the work of the club's ground staff.

He said: "It was disappointing to read such comments from I club I respect and I believe are easily the best team in the league.

"The pitch was bobbly, I certainly didn’t see any tractor marks on the pitch where I’ve walked across and we’ve played on far worse this season, unfortunately we don’t have the pleasure of a 3G.

"The groundsman does a fantastic job with the tools at his disposal and does this work in his own time free of charge.

"Maybe they’ve forgotten that as a 3G pitch looks after itself. The committee give their own time up to do their best and I for one always push for the pitch to be the best it can.

"Yes the pitch was a leveller and with a title on the line I understand their frustrations but they should look at themselves first and not blame the pitch.

"They have technically gifted footballers in their team, great players so for me I was surprised how route one they went, they could have played out from the back in wide areas but chose not to and it nearly worked for them."
