BRYMBO and Queen’s Park both pushed the self-destruct button as the pressure begins to show in the race for the Premier Division title, writes PHIL JONES.

Brymbo lost out 3-1 to in-form Cefn Albion in bruising encounter that saw Brymbo skipper Vita Mbolokele red carded.

A piece of magic from winger Jordan Williams set up Alex Williams for Cefn and after a trip on the influential Dan Cox in the box, Jamie Foulkes doubled their lead in the 71st minute.

The goal stirred Brymbo into action and they won a clear penalty conceded by Nathan Williams but from the incident a full scale melee ensued which saw a red card produced for Mbolokele and a yellow card for Cefn’s Jordan Williams.

Jack Hewitt converted the spot-kick but Albion scored the all-important next goal with Andrew Jones sealing a 3-1 win.

Queen’s Park fluffed a golden opportunity to take over pole position as they were toppled 2-1 by Chirk AAA.

Veteran Tony Jones gave the hosts the lead but second half strikes by Adam Davies and the league’s leading goalscorer Louis Middlehurst gave Chirk a superb victory.

Brickfield Rangers’ season goes from bad to worse as they were beaten 2-1 at home by Rhos Aelwyd.

Dafydd Robertson and Ieuan Jones netted for Aelwyd with Tom Williams replying.

Hawarden Rangers were 3-1 winners at Llanuwchllyn for whom Joe Evans scored.

Llay Welfare were 1-0 winners against FC Nomads with manager Mike Gadie saying: “George Finlay scored out winner with an exquisite finish after a great assist from Jared Taylor.”

Plucky Penycae picked up a point from a 3-3 draw at Mold Alex who took an early lead through Iwan Rogers.

Back came Penycae to take a 2-1 interval lead through Calin Spence and Alex Rowlands. Mold hit back though Rhys Nash and Adam Renshaw but the visitors snatched a deserved late leveller through Josh Millington.

Rhostyllen were superb 4-1 winners against Saltney and star man was veteran striker Mark Williams, who hit a double. Jamie Richards and Josh Jones also netted after Saltney had take a third minute lead through Jake Johnson.

In Division One, Llangollen Town thumped Johnstown 6-0 and there marksmen were Alex Davies, Sam Giles (2), Josh Langford, Simon Williams and John Davies.

Offa Athletic drew 1-1 with Overton and had Tyler Harvey’s effort wiped out by Tom Huxley. Overton keeper Dave Lee was man of the match.

Rhydymwyn kept alive their outside chance of promotion and they defeated Castell Alun Colts 2-1 with efforts from Mitch Williams and Kyle Amoss. Stuart Williams scored for the Colts but also missed a penalty.

In the Reserves Division, Queen’s Park had to play 85 minutes with 10 men after Shane Prince was given his marching orders and hosts Buckley soon netted through Tom Gunson. Park managed to pull it back to 1-1 through Luke Davies.

Corwen thrashed Brickfield Rangers 9-0. Man of the match Joe Williams netted four, sub Tommy Mutton fired a treble with Ryan Billington and Sam Henry also netting.

FC Nomads beat Gresford Athletic 2-0 thanks to second half strikes from Tom Boulton and Luke Muia.

Reserves and Colts Division leaders Holywell Town had a blank week so Penycae closed the gap at the top with a convincing 5-0 success over Llay Welfare.

Aaron Jones, Morgan Daykin (2), Carl Davies and Ian Andrews got the goals.

Cefn Albion were turned over 2-1 by Mynydd Isa Spartans but had Callum Mannion reducing the arrears.

Coedpoeth United defeated Ruthin Town 2-0 and on target were Mykel Woolett and Josh Jones.

New Brighton Villa were held to a 1-1 draw by Rhydymwyn who hit back through Ross Hughes with a spectacular overhead kick.

Overton went down 3-0 at home against Brymbo while in the only North East Wales League game, Niall Challinor scored all four in Acton’s 4-1 win over Bradley Park, for whom Nick Dunne replied.
