HUW GRIFFITHS saluted the "hunger and desire" of Cefn Druids as they became just the fourth team to take a point at Newtown's Latham Park this term.

Fisnik Hajdari struck a 27th minute penalty for Druids, who led until Neil Mitchell levelled inside the final quarter of an hour.

Griffiths was pleased with his side's display as they joined The New Saints, Connah's Quay Nomads and Carmarthen in drawing 1-1 at Latham Park.

"I think it's a decent point," said Griffiths, who was forced into a late reshuffle when Matty Owen pulled out in the warm-up.

"They've not lost at home, and although they had lots of the ball, we've had the clearer of the chances.

"We've defended really well against a side doing really well in the Welsh Premier League.

"We wanted people to be pleased with Cefn Druids again and we did a decent job of doing that with our hunger and desire."

Griffiths made some big decisions ahead of kick-off as he decided to leave Alec Mudimu, Naim Arsan and Dean Rittenberg out of their starting XI.

Arsan did enter the action after half an hour as Neil Ashton limped off with a hamstring problem, while Rittenberg was Owen's late replacement.

Asked about his team selection, Griffiths said: "I picked the best team to try and get something from the game.

"I don't mind leaving big names out of the XI if it's the best decision for the team."
