RUNAWAY leaders Airbus have rediscovered their dominant footballing style, according to Andy Thomas.

The Wingmakers head to Conwy Borough on Saturday buoyed by an emphatic 6-2 hammering of Llanrhaeadr, in which six Airbus players netted in the rout.

The result restored the Flintshire club’s healthy 13-point lead at the summit, with assistant manager Thomas calling for more of the same against Warren Gibbs’ Borough side at Y Morfa.

He said: “As with every game this season, we’re going there to dominate the ball and take every chance to hurt the opposition.

“That’s the approach that’s served us best, when we’ve starved the opposition of possession and created chance after chance.

“After losing at Flint, we needed to see a reaction from the players against Llanrhaeadr and that’s exactly what we got.

"We were outstanding and caused them problems every time we went forward.

“There’s always the belief among the coaches and the players that we can outscore any team.

“It’s just a case now of being clinical with those chances and not letting too many get away from us.”

Curtis Strong, Steve Tomassen and Asa Hamilton could all return to the Airbus line-up, while defender Matty McGinn is sidelined with a shoulder injury.

Steve Halliwell has billed Gresford Athletic’s home clash with Holyhead Hotspur as a ‘must-win’.

Despite an unbeaten December, Halliwell feels his side ought to have a bigger points haul from their three games this month.

And, with a taxing fixture schedule ahead in the new year, the Colliers boss has demanded maximum points against basement side Hotspur.

He said: “That’s got to be the aim, because the games ahead of us certainly aren’t getting any easier.

“We felt we’d done enough to win the Buckley game but didn’t get the rub of the green in terms of decisions against us and it was two points dropped.

“Those fine margins can ultimately have big effect over the course of a season, so Saturday is now a must-win.

“We’re in that mid-table area, but we know that a win could push us near those top six sides if other results go our way.

“But we know we’re in for a tough game. Holyhead are never easy opposition to play against and they’ll be fighting for every point until the end of the season.

“We’ve got the quality in this squad to win this type of game, but we’ll have to match Holyhead’s desire and attitude in all areas of the pitch.”

Halliwell will be without midfielder Jack Chalenor and striker Jordan MacCarter, with both players suspended.

John Haseldin believes that Holywell Town’s results against relegation-threatened rivals will ultimately decide the club’s fate this season.

After a spirited 2-1 victory in the Boxing Day derby against high-flying Flint, Holywell now head to fellow strugglers Penrhyncoch.

And Wellmen boss Haseldin has urged his side to build the momentum to propel them away from the Alliance drop zone.

He said: “This is a bigger game to us than the Flint one.

“Winning the derby in front of our supporters was great, but it’s the games against the likes of Penrhyncoch which will define our season.

“They’re down there with us, so if we can now string two or three wins together, it could really push us onto better things.

“It’s a three hour round-trip for the lads and we need to try to make sure we come back from there with something.

“Against Flint we saw the hard-work, effort and heart from all of our players - and that’s the least we expect from them in every game.

"We need to fight right up until the final whistle, with nobody downing tools beforehand, because we’re still in a real scrap to get ourselves out of trouble.”

Midfielder Zebb Edwards returns to the Holywell squad, while full-back Tom Hartley is an injury doubt.

Dan Moore says his Buckley Town side have ‘improved massively’ in a short space of time this season.

Currently seventh in the table, the Bucks visit Llanrhaeadr tomorrow looking to atone for a 2-1 defeat in August’s reverse fixture.

And Moore believes his side are a ‘much smarter' proposition now than they were in the second game of this season.

He said: “I think we were caught a bit cold in that game after we’d lost heavily to Bangor on the opening day.

“Since then we’ve improved massively in terms of the demands of this league and learning what’s required to pick up points.

“We’ve been scoring late goals quite a lot recently and it’s pleasing that we’ve got that character and resilience to keep going.

“We feel confident we can go to Llanrhaeader and get a positive result and try to end a good year for the club on a high.”

The visitors are at full strength for the clash with Phil Molyneux set to return to the squad.

Niall McGuinness says that the lack of a winning mentality has hindered Flint Town United's title prospects this season.

Flint looked well-placed to step up their title challenge after inflicting a first league defeat on Airbus, but then came unstuck in their derby clash with Holywell.

And with his side now 13 points off the summit, Silkmen boss McGuinness has targeted a swift return to winning ways at home to Denbigh Town.

He said: “Losing to Holywell did feel like a backward step really after we’d played brilliantly to beat Airbus.

“We had the same group of players for both games, which tells me it’s an issue with the players mentality.

“I think we’ve lost three away games to sides currently in the bottom six and you just can’t do that if you want to seriously challenge for this league.

“We were flat at Holywell and I think we need to be mentally stronger to stop dropping points in those types of game.

“I’m just glad we’ve got a swift turnaround now and can try to put things right against Denbigh.”

Richie Foulkes serves the final game of his suspension while Myles Hart and Ryan Smith are both injured.

Second-placed Porthmadog head to Prestatyn Town, Bangor City host Guilsfield, while Rhyl entertain Ruthin Town.
