NEIL ASHTON has urged Cefn Druids to seize the moment and secure European football in Sunday's winner-takes-all showdown with Cardiff Met.

The Ancients entertain Met in the Welsh Premier League play-off final at The Rock (12.25pm kick-off).

The victors will qualify for next season's Europa League, joining league rivals Bala & Connah's Quay in the preliminary rounds with teams from Andorra, Gibraltar, San Marino, Malta, Kosovo and Lithuania.

Ashton, who played in two Football League play-off finals for Shrewsbury Town and also spent five seasons at Wrexham, knows the rewards are huge if Huw Griffiths' Druids overcome Met.

"It is a big game and the incentive is to get the chance to play in Europe," said Ashton.

"Many friends in football have had glittering careers in the game but they have never played in Europe.

"There is a lot riding on it personally and financially so we need to make sure we turn up, do what is asked of us by the manager and get the result."

After securing a place in the top half of the Welsh Premier League for the first time before the split, Druids eventually finished fifth, one place above Met.

That has guaranteed home advantage in the final, while Connah's Quay Nomads' Welsh Cup success meant Druids avoided a semi-final tie, Met accounting for Barry Town 4-1 in the last four last weekend to secure their place.

"We have picked up some good results in the second half of the season since the split," said Ashton.

"We beat Cardiff twice and it has helped us to get home advantage.

"We saw Cardiff were beating TNS 3-2 on the final day and we were doing our own job.

"Thankfully TNS scored to make it 3-3 and we went directly to the final after Connah's Quay won the Welsh Cup.

"It meant we only have to play one game and we have got home advantage so we have got to make that count."

Ashton, who is under contract at The Rock for next season, is available after serving a suspension and is hoping for a recall.

"It is probably one of the biggest games for the club, certainly in its recent history," said Ashton.

"Fingers crossed whoever is selected can get a result and get the job done.

"I have only missed games through suspension this season so I hope to play."

Wrexham season ticket holders will benefit from a discount gate and only be charged £4 admission.

Druids are accepting 2017/18 season tickets as well as the early bird for the 2018/19 campaign and if Wrexham season ticket holders bring a friend, they too will only pay £4.

"Fingers crossed Wrexham fans will come and support us to get the win," added Ashton.
