Liverpool Competition Cricket weekend previews

Hall go into tomorrow's Liverpool Competition Division One home clash with Old Xaverians looking to put a three-wicket loss to Newton-le-Willows firmly behind them, before the Flintshire side visit Liverpool in the Ray Tyler Cup semi-finals.

Barnes can't separate them in terms of importance, insisting that both are games Hall are determined to win.

"They are both massive," said Barnes. "Tomorrow's game is important so that we can get back on track in the league and a win will make it four in five, so that's a good little run.

"And Sunday is massive for our chances of winning some silverware."

Sunday's cup clash sees Hall come up against former player Dan Clubbe, who has continued his impressive form at his new club with 36 wickets at an average of 15.

But Barnes won't let coming up against someone he has known since he was 11 distract Hall from trying to set-up a final against Newton-le-Willows or St Helens Town.

"Liverpool are doing well in Division Two, but we are doing well in our league as well," said Barnes. "They will make it tough for us, but if we turn up on the day we should win.

"We won't be taking anything for granted though because they've got some good players."

Switching his attentions to tomorrow's home clash with Old Xaverians, who inflicted a 131-run opening day defeat on Hall, Barnes is eager to level the scores.

"Old Xaverians are a good team, but they are inconsistent," said Barnes. "They can be very good or they can get rolled - like last week when Highfield bowled them out for 51.

"Their inconsistency makes them a dangerous team, but we are looking to put the defeat to Newton-le-Willows behind us by returning to winning ways, which will allow us to go into Sunday full of confidence."

Ben Slater and Liam Evans-Ford return for Hall tomorrow in place of Matthew Dunning and Caleb Dyke, while Josh Andrady is unavailable for Sunday's cup clash.

Hall Seconds are in action tomorrow as they make their way to Hightown St Marys Seconds.
