FORTON could find themselves in the wrong place at the wrong time as they host a Chirk side chasing a fifth successive Shropshire League success.

Andrew Swarbrick’s side made it four wins in a row as they defeated Wroxeter and Uppington by 131 runs last weekend.

And Chirk are strengthened by the return of Gareth Partridge, who sits second in the league’s run scoring table with 253 at an average of 50, and ever-improving youngster James Carter.

“It’s great to be able to bring Gaz and James back in,” said Swarbrick. “They are both in good form, so to win last weekend without them is a very good sign.”

Partridge is second in the scoring charts to Chirk team-mate Nick Flack, who struck 108 to total 345 for the campaign.

“He’s in the mood,” declared Swarbrick of Flack’s form. “He’s batting as well as I’ve seen him bat for years.

“Nick and Luke Gardner, who hit 50, were in unbelievable form last weekend.”

Flack’s form has mirrored that of Chirk, who have banished the turmoil of 2018 - where they failed to win a game in the North Wales Premier Division - to the history books.

The hangover from last season was still there when Chirk lost to Wellington Seconds in their first Shropshire League fixture.

But Swarbrick believes that defeat proved the catalyst for Chirk’s current run of form, which has seen them climb to second in the table.

“It’s a good feeling to put a winning streak together for the first time in about three years,” said Swarbrick.

“The mindset is completely different around the club and we go into every game confident.”

That confidence will not become complacency, however, Swarbrick continuing: “We’ve got to stay focused and keep doing what we have been doing.

“We have a chat before each game about making sure we are at the levels needed to win matches in this division.”

Chirk Seconds will be out to make it back-to-back victories over Cae Glas Seconds in Division Eight.

The Wrexham outfit clinched a 10-wicket away win over the same opposition last weekend, and entertain them at Holyhead Road tomorrow.
