GRESFORD secured derby day bragging rights by wrapping up a 148-run Premier Division success over Brymbo.

Both teams went into the encounter without a win this season and languishing at the wrong end of the table as a result.

And it was Gresford who got a welcome win, the home side posting 227 for eight after being asked to bat first.

Captain Daniel Williams, promoted to opener, top scored with 90, while Matthew Thompson (57) and Matthew Cree (34) were also in the runs, despite Gareth Boyes’ 4-41.

Brymbo never looked like getting near that total as they were bowled out for just 79, Mohamed Nilam Jayman hitting 41

Jack Bunkell and Ryan Williams shared six wickets for Gresford with Chris Ellwood and John Bell taking two apiece.

Northop continued their fine start to the campaign by recording a seven-wicket win at Pwllheli.

Tom Blackwell (3-36), Andy Poynton (3-63) and Bart Beswick (2-36) combined impressively as Northop bowled the home side out for 212, Morgan Murray-Williams hitting 69.

Darren Williams (70) and Ammar Mahmood (63) put on 94 for the second wicket as Northop made inroads into the Pwllheli total.

The duo eventually departed, but Blackwell (48 not out) and Ben Beaver (18no) saw their side home with 10 overs to spare.

Pontblyddyn came unstuck at Mochdre, who wrapped up a 131-run home win.

Chris Moss bagged 6-50 and Ben Mason took 2-8 as Pontblyddyn dismissed Mochdre for 217 after the hosts were cruising along at 79 for one.

But without captain Glenn Chambers, Pontblyddyn found the run chase tough, Moss the only batsman to trouble the scorers with 36 as the visitors were bundled out for 86.

Gareth Goodson proved the main thorn in Pontblyddyn’s side as he pocketed 5-36.

It was a similar story for Connah’s Quay as they suffered a 92-run defeat at the hands of Denbigh.

Without key duo Martin Burger and David Fox, Quay produced a strong showing in the field, bowling the visitors out for 183.

Callum Miller led the way with 3-38 with Mali Auty, Scott Adams and Jack Griffiths taking two wickets apiece.

But 184 for victory proved out of Quay’s reach as they were hurried out for just 91, Gareth Jones top scoring with 35 as Sam Lewis picked up 4-8.

Second placed Bangor recorded their third win of the season by overcoming Llandudno by six wickets.

Franco Kasner helped himself to 5-30 after Chris Dawson and Michael Hughes had taken two wickets apiece to dismiss Llandudno for 115.

Bangor eased past that target with 20 overs to spare as Owen Reilly carried his bat to finish unbeaten on 42.

Menai Bridge proved they mean business by defeating St Asaph by 150 runs.

Carl Jones and Gethin Roberts struck half centuries as Menai amassed 268 for six, which proved far too big for St Asaph as they were bundled out for 118, extras top scoring with 33.

Liam Bibby bagged 5-39 with Dion Holden and Sean O’Callaghan taking two wickets apiece for Menai.
