Chester came from behind to take the Supporters Direct Shield honours with a 4-1 victory at 1874 Northwich on Tuesday evening.

Played in humid conditions at Barnton, the Blues trailed 1-0 in the clash between two-fan-owned clubs after Sam Hare slotted beyond Chester keeper Russ Griffiths on 18 minutes.

Dutch striker Akwasi Asante made his first pre-season appearance for the Blues but he and strike partner Matty Hughes were replaced on 38 minutes by Anthony Dudley and Danny Elliott.

The switch paid dividends as Dudley levelled with a penalty just before the interval, netting after full-back Jamie Morgan was brought down by Northwich stopper Tony Aghayere.

A strong start to the second half saw Chester go close through Elliott, whose shot drew a smart save from Aghayere after a neat pass from Joel Taylor.

Substitute Iwan Murray's well-struck free-kick was well saved on 63 minutes, before Dudley's goalbound header was also thwarted by Aghayere.

Sustained Chester pressure eventually yielded a breakthrough as Simon Grand headed home Murray's 75th minute corner.

The result was put beyond doubt eight minutes later when some neat build-up play set up Dudley, who bagged his second of the evening.

Dudley turned provider late on when he evaded the home defence and set up Elliott whose finish found the bottom corner.
