Chester picked up their second win of pre-season with a 2-1 victory at Cheadle Town on Friday night.
Blues bosses Anthony Johnson and Bernard Morley fielded a youthful side at Park Road, where goals from returning striker Matty Hughes and a trialist proved decisive.
Playing his first match for the Blues since sustaining an anterior cruciate ligament injury last October, Hughes opened the scoring on eight minutes when he latched onto a ball over the top of the home defence before rounding the keeper and slotting home.
The Blues held their single-goal advantage at the break, with one of the visitors' four trialists doubling the advantage with a half volley on 63 minutes.
North West Counties League side Cheadle reduced arrears in the closing stages through a Yannick De-Gal strike, but the Blues held firm to record back-to-back victories.
A swift fixture turnaround sees Chester visit Lancashire outfit Colne on Saturday in a 3pm kick-off.
