CHESTER FC have confirmed the permanent signing of striker Akwasi Asante from Tamworth FC.

The Netherlands-born forward has joined the club for an undisclosed club record fee after an impressive month-long loan stint from The Lambs, which saw the 26-year-old score five goals in three games for the Blues, including a hat trick on debut against Darlington.

The striker completed a medical at the Swansway Chester Stadium on January 1, putting pen to paper on an 18-month contract.

A statement from ChesterFC.com said: "Chester FC are delighted to announce the permanent signing of striker Akwasi Asante from Tamworth FC.

"We would like to acknowledge and formally place on record our thanks to Stuart Murphy who assisted the move through his financial contribution."

Asante has a fine record in non league football, scoring 17 goals in 39 appearances to spearhead Solihull Moors to the National League North title under former Chester boss Marcus Bignot back in 2016.

His scoring exploits came after a spell at Kidderminster following the striker's release from Birmingham City where he made his senior debut in a Europa League tie, coming on as a sub as the Midlands outfit beat Portuguese side Nacional 3-0.

Akwasi, who was born in Amsterdam, continued his scoring feats for Solihull following promotion with 11 goals in 22 National League games, before he was signed by League Two Club Grimsby for an undisclosed fee.

The 26-year-old then joined Tamworth on an 18-month deal in February 2018 following his release from the Mariners that same month.
