ANTHONY JOHNSON believes the acquisition of winger Adam Dawson will add another dimension to Chester's attacking options this term.

Dawson made his Blues debut from the bench against York on Tuesday night, following his acrimonious switch from league rivals Telford United.

After agreeing to release the 26-year-old on Sunday, the Bucks accused Chester of making an unauthorised approach for the player.

The matter has since been reported to the FA and The National League, with Blues joint-manager Johnson strenuously denying the allegations and hailing his new recruit's attacking qualities.

He said: “I’m really pleased that we’ve got it over the line but I’m devastated, fuming and disappointed by the way it’s been handled

“I know what’s been said by the club and the local press but I think it is a disgrace how it has been gone about.

“Because know that we have done everything absolutely right but, as they say, it will all come out in the wash as there are one or two things we’re not happy about as well.

"We tried to sign him in the summer, but Telford rang him up while he was training with us to take him down there.

"He's a really talented player and showed glimpses against York of real quality.

"So we're really pleased to get him. He's come here for nothing and looking to earn a deal.

"So hopefully he can find a place in the team and be a part of moving us up near the top of the league again."

The solid form of Blues wingers Craig Mahon and Dan Mooney is unlikely to see either player immediately dislodged by Dawson.

While his presence will add quality competition for places out wide, Dawson could be accommodated elsewhere in Chester's starting eleven.

Introduced immediately after the interval at Bootham Crescent, Dawson was deployed behind lone striker Anthony Dudley.

And Johnson admits that kind of versatility among his attacking midfielders will be a key asset for the Blues.

"With Mahon and Mooney as well, we've now got three players with absolute bundles of quality that we can move about in different areas.

"Dawson's very good from wide positions -from the right and the left - but he's also a really good number 10.

"He's impressed us in that role in the past whenever he's played against us, so we know we've got three players there that we can rotate.

"Those three have absolutely bundles of quality that we can move about in different areas as well."
