ALTHOUGH last week’s scheduled top flight encounter at Newtown was postponed, Connah’s Quay Nomads’ players still managed to get out on the pitch.
It’s take-two tomorrow as Billy Paynter takes his side to Newtown for the rearranged Cymru Premier League match-up.
Players could easily have had a night off following the latest postponement, but that wasn’t the case for the Quay contingent.
“After our game was called off, I gave the option to the lads they can be in Saturday morning for a training session or we go back to our training ground,” said Paynter (pictured right).
“All the lads said they were happy to do the training session.
“The lads are buying into what we’re trying to do and bringing that professional side to it.
“They are very honest lads.”
Top-six aims remain in Nomads’ sights ahead of the mid-season split.
A sixth triumph of the campaign tomorrow will see Nomads move to within just two points of sixth-placed Caernarfon Town.
“The target is to get three points,” added Paynter.
“We know it’s not going to be an easy game.
“We just have to concentrate on ourselves.”
Tomorrow’s encounter will provide the opening of a busy spell for Connah’s Quay, who have six games left to play ahead of the mid-season split early in the new year.
On Tuesday, they will play host to Caernarfon in a crucial match for the top-six shake-up.
Then, the following weekend, Nomads head south to tackle top-of-the-table Penybont.
