PHIL PARKINSON called it a "special" win as Wrexham beat Lincoln City 1-0 at The Racecourse to stay among the League One leaders.

The Reds secured a narrow victory after James McClean's shot was turned into his own net by Imps defender Tendayi Darikwa in the 67th-minute.

Wrexham played a lot better in Saturday's 3-0 success at home to Exeter City but Parkinson felt it was a battling performance against play-off chasing Lincoln and another significant result.

“When you win 1-0, so many qualities have to be on display," said Parkinson, whose side remain second in the table and four points behind leaders Wycombe Wanderers.

"So many moments in the game are big moments for us. Callum Burton's save in the first half and Lewis Brunt's goal-line clearance were key moments for us.

"I am obviously proud of every win we have but this just felt a bit special with backing up Saturday's performance.

“We had wins like this in the National League where conditions were bad and we just had to scrap and fight.

"There was some good football on display as well from both sides.

“That resilience we've tried to instil in the lads and the club since we've been here which comes from the very top – the owners – was on display here.

“We said to the lads at half-time that this game will be about the team who is prepared to run the hard yards to go that extra yard to make a tackle, to make a block or score a goal, and I felt we showed that.

“I could see the lads had an understanding that it was going to be a tough second period and we had to be the team which drove the extra bit - like George Dobson’s run for the goal - to make sure we got the three points."
