TWO quickfire first half strikes helped Connah’s Quay Nomads to make it a successful Sunday.
Rhys Hughes and Noah Edwards struck within three minutes of each other before the break as Billy Paynter’s side beat Briton Ferry Llansawel 2-1.
Hughes netted with a curling effort from distance, while Edwards knocked in the loose ball after Chris Marriott’s cross wasn’t cleared.
Briton Ferry pulled one back through Kian Jenkins midway through the second half.
Nomads were down to 10 men in stoppage time with the dismissal of Declan Poole for a second bookable offence, but they held on.
Flint suffered a narrow defeat at the hands of Barry Town United for the second time this season.
After losing 3-2 during their trip south in August, Lee Fowler’s side were on the wrong end of a 2-1 outcome at the Essity Stadium.
A slow start from the Silkmen played its part in the loss.
Midway through the first half and Robbie Willmott set up Josh Yorwerth for Barry’s opener. It was 2-0 after half-an-hour with Sam Snaith’s deflected effort going into the net.
Josh Jones forced a good save from Luc Rees as Flint sought a response, while Barry went close to a third goal right on the stroke of half-time when an effort struck the crossbar.
Striker Elliott Reeves came off the bench at the break and he hauled the home side back into the game in the 62nd minute.
Florian Yonsian had a couple of opportunities as the half developed, but Barry, who had manager Steve Jenkins red-carded, held on.
The New Saints returned from their European heroics with a hard-fought 4-2 triumph against Aberystwyth Town.
Aramide Jay Oteh, Ashley Baker, Declan McManus and an own goal won it for the Saints, as Harry Arnison and Zac Hartley kept Aber interested.
Nathan Burke’s stoppage time strike ensured Bala Town claimed a point from their 1-1 draw away to leaders Penybont.
Ioan Phillips’ effort had the hosts in front at the break, but the Lakesiders hit back through Burke in the 94th minute.
Burke told S4C’s Sgorio: “First half, nowhere near good enough for our standards.
“Obviously, they’re a really good side. We knew that coming into the game, but we started off poorly.
“But, second half, we’ve done really well. Just got in their face a little bit more and then got our just reward, really, and got a point.”
Haverfordwest County and Caernarfon Town played out a 0-0 draw, while on Friday, nine-man Cardiff Met got the better of Newtown 2-1.
The hosts had Jack Veale and Gruffudd Morgan sent off, but Eliot Evans and an own goal won it. Dominic Smith struck for Newtown.
