CONNAH’S QUAY NOMADS’ winless run in the top flight was extended to five matches as they were beaten 3-1 at Caernarfon Town.
Last season’s runners-up were looking to finally get their season up and running following a midweek draw with Newtown, but it was the Canaries who comfortably came out on top to record their fourth win of the campaign.
Nomads’ boss Billy Paynter was a disappointed figure following the final whistle at The Oval.
He told S4C’s Sgorio: “Very disappointed with the team. I thought Caernarfon were a better team from the start.
“We didn’t get up to the pace. We knew their threat, that they had pace up top.
“But, no, we were still in the dressing room for the first half and even in the second half.
“We said some things second half to try and get something out of the players, made sure that we were the ones to get the next goal.
“But Caernarfon sort of finished (us) off, then it was just huff and puff from us.”
Caernarfon were in control of things by the break.
Paulo Mendes opened the scoring in the 18th minute and then in first half stoppage time, Darren Thomas was on hand to double the advantage.
Zack Clarke’s 56th minute goal put the match to bed, before Connah’s Quay were awarded a penalty in the closing 10 minutes for a foul on Ben Maher. Skipper John Disney converted the spot kick for Nomads’ consolation.
