CRAIG LINDFIELD says Colwyn Bay are starting to discover their stride ahead of a reunion with his former teammates.
Lindfield and the Seagulls will be looking forward to tonight’s big top-of-the-table showdown at home to leaders Airbus.
Mark Allen’s Wingmakers are yet to drop a point, while third-placed Bay are seven points back.
Lindfield, who switched from Airbus to his current club over the summer, told Colwyn Bay’s YouTube channel: “The whole team’s doing really well as the moment.
“I think we’re just starting to gel and starting to understand how each other play.
“It looks a little bit more natural now and lads are starting to play with a bit more freedom and I think just being with each other on the training field and, obviously, seven, eight games in now, you can start to see the lads are, you know, starting to understand where lads like to play the ball, where people like to run and I think it’s all positive at the moment.”
Airbus boss Allen has been pleased with his side's start, but he has stressed it's still early in the season.
"It's still September - you don't win anything in September," said Allen, who will welcome the likes of Sam Ricketts and James Davies back into the squad. "It's a great start and credit to the lads with what they have worked for. It's a start and that's all it is. We want to keep looking at each game as it comes."
Looking ahead to the match-up, Bay boss Michael Wilde said: “Obviously, we’ll come up with, hopefully, a game plan of how we can counteract the way they’re scoring goals as well.
“But we’ll definitely give it a go and on our best, we’ll look forward to that challenge.”
Johnny Haseldin, the manager of second-placed Holywell Town, anticipates an intriguing encounter between the high-flying rivals.
“It will be a good game for the neutral,” he said.
“It’s probably a six-pointer for both sides, but it’s not going to affect anything we do.”
For the Wellmen, the focus is on tomorrow’s home clash versus Denbigh Town. “It will be an interesting game,” stressed Haseldin.
“They have recruited a number of new players and there’s a strategy there of recruiting new players from clubs that have been good footballers.
“But we have got to concentrate on ourselves.
“We feel like we can still get better, but we do keep finding ways to win games.
“We need to make sure we’re on it Saturday.
“They might see it like a bit of a game where they can kick-start their season.”
Jake Cooke suffered a back injury in the recent Welsh League Cup loss to Bala Town, but Holywell are hoping he is available tomorrow. Ryan Woods should also be back, while Kristian Platt remains out with a shoulder injury.
