SOME might say that the EFL Trophy is something Wrexham could do without this season.

But with a squad bursting with talent, Phil Parkinson’s starting line-up against Salford tonight will be interesting to say the least.

It could be a totally different team to the one who went top of the table with Saturday’s embarrassingly easy 3-0 win over cross-border rivals Shrewsbury Town.

Paul Mullin and deadline day signing Mo Faal look set to lead the line while there could also be run-outs for summer signings Dan Scarr, Lewis Brunt, and Callum Burton.

That should be exciting enough to attract a 6,000 crowd to The STōK Racecourse which will be 5,000 more than the Reds first game in the competition back in 1983.

Going back to Saturday’s win and it was great the match went ahead with so many international call-ups leading to games galore being canned.

It harks back to the non-league era when Wrexham were left playing catch up having games cancelled. There’s nothing better than points in the bag at this stage of the season.
