BILLY PAYNTER suffered his first defeat as Connah’s Quay Nomads’ manager as Barry Town United battled back to record a 2-1 triumph at the Essity Stadium.

Paynter’s time at the helm had opened with successes versus Flint and Briton Ferry Llansawel, but Ollie Hulbert’s brace confirmed Barry’s win, his second goal arriving in stoppage time.

Quay had the lead at half-time on the back of Jack Kenny’s first goal of the season.

Paynter old the club’s X site: “Disappointed in the second half how we came out, really. We said things at half-time.

“I felt first half, we were good. We created chances, but it was very slow.

“I think if we upped our tempo in our play, we could have gone in half-time two-or-three up, then it’s the decision.”

Nomads felt they should have been awarded a penalty towards the end of the first half for a foul on Noah Edwards, but the referee had different ideas.

“But that’s the referee’s decision,” added Paynter. “You get on with it, but to see the reaction second half, we sort of sat back, constant pressure.

“They’ve played their game well second half, asked us the questions and then it was very one-way traffic.”
