UNBEATEN Wrexham have got top of League One after registering a 3-0 derby win against arch rivals Shrewsbury Town at The Racecourse.
With only a handful of fixtures in the division taking place due to international call-ups, Phil Parkinson's side took full advantage and climbed from second spot to the summit with a thoroughly deserved victory.
Ollie Palmer and Elliot Lee both scored their second goals of the season to leave the Reds in control at the break.
Leading scorer Jack Marriott made it 3-0, converting his third goal this term, in the second half and there was no way back for the Shrews after that.
Wrexham have now taken 13 points from a possible 15 and kept four clean sheets in a row.
Parkinson made one change from the side that started the 2-0 win at Peterborough United the previous weekend which continued the unbeaten start to the season.
Midfielder Andy Cannon limped off injured at London Road and was replaced by summer signing Ollie Rathbone who made his first league start for the Reds.
Wrexham made a bright start and came close to breaking the deadlock in the ninth minute after winning their first corner.
Lee sent in the flag-kick which was cleared to Rathbone who mis-hit his shot but the ball fell for James McClean who struck the bar.
However, the Reds took the lead after 15 minutes.
Ryan Barnett drove forward and found Lee who laid off to McClean and his low cross was turned home by Palmer.
Some stray passes crept into Wrexham's game and there was a chance for Shrewsbury when a cross came in from the left but Leo Castledine's header was saved by keeper Arthur Okonkwo.
But Wrexham came close following neat build-up play as a superb move ended with McClean picking out Palmer whose shot was blocked by a defender in the area.
Shrewsbury had their moments and Castledine's low drive across goal was just beyond George Lloyd and deflected behind for a corner, but Wrexham went 2-0 up on 42 minutes.
Barnett set-off on another fine run and cut inside from the right after referee Alex Chilowicz played an advantage when Palmer was fouled, and he fed Lee who slotted past Savin.
There was another opportunity for Wrexham at the start of the second half with Marriott's stooping header from McClean's cross saved by Savin.
Mal Benning's free-kick was turned over the bar by Okonkwo at the other end but Wrexham went 3-0 up in the 59th minute.
Toto Nsiala failed to cut out O'Connell's long ball over the top and with Savin also caught in no man's land after rushing off his line, Marriott found an empty net with a calm finish.
Wrexham continued to press and Lee's low effort fell wide while Paul Mullin's header was saved by Savin from fellow substitute Sebastian Revan's cross.
Mullin has a brilliant chance when he raced onto Steven Fletcher's flick-on but the striker's chip went over the bar with only Savin to beat, and Revan also went close with a late volley, but Wrexham had done more than enough.
