PHIL PARKINSON revealed he always wanted to bring in a young striker during the transfer window and he allowed Sam Dalby to leave once Mo Faal arrived at The Racecourse.

It was all about the frontmen on deadline day as Gambian-born Faal became the eighth new signing of the summer with the 21-year-old joining Wrexham from West Bromwich Albion for an undisclosed fee, penning a contract through to June 2027 with an option for a further year.

Faal, who made his professional debut with the Baggies in August 2021, spent last season on loan at League Two clubs Doncaster Rovers and Walsall, scoring 15 goals which included finding the net for the former in a 2-1 defeat at Wrexham last September.

Parkinson allowed attacking trio Dalby, Jake Bickerstaff and Billy Waters to go out on loan after landing Faal who was an unused substitutes in Saturday's brilliant 2-0 League One win at Peterborough and will battle it out with Paul Mullin, Ollie Palmer, Jack Marriott and Steven Fletcher for a starting place

"I am very pleased to get Mo," said Parkinson.

"We looked at the age range of our strikers and we felt if we could get a younger one in to add to what we've got with Dalbs, Bickers and Billy going, that would be a nice fit.

"Mo is a good player. He has got a lot of talent and he is someone who can grow with the club."

Dalby has signed for newly-promoted Scottish Premiership side Dundee United on a season-long loan.

The 24-year-old made 91 appearances for Wrexham since signing from Southend United in the summer of 2022, scoring 13 goals to help the Reds secure back-to-back promotions. He played twice this season, making one start and one substitute appearance.

When Faal joined the Reds, Parkinson said it was only fair that Dalby was given the chance to go and get first-team football elsewhere.

"I always said to Dalbs that if we did get a player in, we would let him go because like I said with Jordan Davies, you can only be that good lad around the building for so long when you are not getting any game-time," he said.

"Dalbs has been great for us. He has been a great member of the squad but it is his opportunity now and I'm looking forward to seeing him take it at Dundee United."

Bickerstaff and Waters have headed out for temporary spells until January in the National League with Altrincham and Halifax Town respectively.

Neither player featured this season before leaving.

After coming through the club’s youth set-up, Bickerstaff has scored six goals in 28 appearances for Wrexham, including his first Football League goals last season against Walsall and Swindon Town, and has previously spent time on loan with Caernarfon Town, Nantwich Town and Accrington Stanley.

Waters joined Wrexham from Barrow for an undisclosed fee in in March 2023 but has found opportunities limited at The Racecourse - he spent the second half of last campaign on loan at Doncaster - and returns to Halifax where he enjoyed a successful spell in 2021-22.
