GRESFORD ATHLETIC’S busy week ended on a positive note.

Eddie Maurice-Jones side reached the next round of the Cymru North Cup courtesy of a comfortable 3-0 win over Denbigh Town, gaining revenge for a 5-1 league defeat to the same opponents just seven days earlier.

Athletic were on top during the initial stages and new signing Dave Forbes had an effort saved by Town keeper Joshua Wilmot.

Forbes, signed in the week from Holywell Town, was the creator as Gresford claimed a 17th minute lead. He flicked the ball on for Charlie Mann to make it one-nil.

Things got even better for Gresford within three minutes as Haci Ozlu’s curling effort doubled the advantage.

After Ozlu had a further effort saved by Wilmot, the home side had their third goal prior to the break and it was Forbes who marked his debut with a goal.

As well as Forbes, Gresford have also made the move to sign Ilan ap Gareth from Holywell Town.

Another new addition to the ranks is Reece Oliver, who has made the move from Cammell Laird 1907.

Oliver started his career at Wrexham, making his first appearance for the first team as a substitute against Burnley U23s.

He has since played for Vauxhall Motors and Cammell Laird 1907.

Maurice-Jones told the club’s website: “He’s already demonstrated his exceptional qualities and ability during training. Reece has a great understanding of the game and is a perfect fit for our style of play.”

Meanwhile, Gresford assistant boss Jonathan Hill-Dunt has made the decision to leave the club in order to take on a new opportunity.

Maurice-Jones said: “I’d like to thank Dunty for his exceptional service to the club and the close working relationship we had, particularly in recent seasons.”

Ruthin Town eased into the next round as they defeated Guilsfield 3-0 on Sunday afternoon.

Josh Evans and Llyr Morris had Dave Evans’ side in the box seat by the time the half-time whistle was sounded.

Morris then added his second on the hour to put the tie to bed.
