STEVEN FLETCHER is expecting a frosty reception against Sheffield United tonight but the striker isn't bothered because James McClean will take the heat off him!

Wrexham, who registered a 3-2 victory over Wycombe Wanderers on the opening day of the League One season on Saturday, take on the Championship outfit in a Carabao Cup first round tie at Bramall Lane tonight.

Former Scotland international Fletcher counts the Blades' arch rival Sheffield Wednesday among his former clubs but the 37-year-old isn't fazed about about any stick he might receive from opposing supporters, knowing Reds' captain McClean - so often the target for abuse from the stands - will get more boos.

"It is a cup game, they will probably make changes and we might. It is up to the gaffer," said Fletcher.

"Obviously the league is most important but it is good for the lads to get some more minutes.

"We know it will be a tough game but it would be nice to go on a run in the cup and I am looking forward to it.

"I will be a good game. I don't think I will be the most liked person having played for Sheffield Wednesday but that doesn't bother me at all.

"James McClean will get more pelters than me so I am alright!"

Fletcher, who signed a new one-year contract in the summer, came off the bench and scored Wrexham's third goal in the victory over Wycombe at The Racecourse.

"With the hype around going up to League One and the owners being here for the opening day of the season, it was good to get off to a winning start," said Fletcher. "We needed it.

"As a player after pre-season, you are happy the games come thick and fast. You just want to play games.

"I had a knock in pre-season but I trained Thursday and Friday and the gaffer seen enough to put me on the bench, and happily I repaid him with a goal."

After making his mark at Hibernian, Fletcher went on to spells with Burnley, Wolves. Sunderland, Marseille, Wednesday, Stoke City and Dundee United before joining Wrexham last September.

When he needed against Wycombe, it completed a milestone for the experienced frontman.

"I have scored in every league now which is good," said Fletcher, who bagged eight goals last season as Wrexham finished runners-up in League Two to secure a second promotion in a row.

"It was my first appearance in League One so I have played in every league and scored in every league in England which is a nice little milestone for myself."
