PHIL PARKINSON is backing Jack Marriott to thrive now that the striker has moved to the area.

Brought in from Fleetwood Town on winter transfer deadline day, Marriott scored a stunning volley in Saturday's 3-2 win against Wycombe Wanderers at The Racecourse on the opening day of the League One season.

It was just his second goal for the Reds but Parkinson believes Marriott, a League One Golden Boot winner during his time with Peterborough in 2017-18, will continue to prosper.

"I am so pleased for Jack," said Parkinson. "He had a good pre-season, he was superb against Chelsea and the goal was a high quality finish.

"That goal against Wycombe, I don't think you will see many better goals in the EFL.

"That is really good link-up play between the two strikers and an outstanding finish.

"You could sense our supporters warm to him not just because of the goal but because of his work for the team.

"Jack has got good pedigree, he has scored goals in the Championship and the top end of this division.

"He has moved up into the area now which is great, we have got him settled where he want him so we can really work with him.

"He is not travelling too much and he is a great lad. The lads love him, he is a team player but all strikers want to put the ball in the back of the net and he has done that with great style."
