STEVEN FLETCHER insists he has not joined Wrexham just to see out his career and the experienced striker is determined to make an impact during his time at The STóK Cae Ras.
A Scotland international with 19 goals from 39 outings, Fletcher has made nearly 700 appearances across spells including in the top flights of England, Scotland and France, and has joined the Reds on a free transfer until the end of the season.
The 36-year-old played for Hibernian, Burnley, Wolves. Sunderland, Marseille, Sheffield Wednesday and Stoke City before spending last season with Dundee United where he scored 10 goals in 39 games.
A late substitute in Saturday's 2-1 home win against Doncaster Rovers, Fletcher impressed during his short time on the pitch and the frontman insists he is not in north Wales just to make up the numbers.
"It is brilliant joining the club, I am just glad to be a part of it," said Fletcher.
"I had a few offers but at this stage of my career, I wasn't getting that buzz that I wanted to go and play somewhere.
"Wrexham came calling and I got that buzz straight away.
"I was like 'I want to be part of that'. As soon as I got the phone call, I was down.
"I am one of those people that when I do something, I am 100 per cent.
"When the other clubs came calling, it wouldn't have been fair on them or me if I'd have just gone and sat there.
"I will give 100 per cent every time I step over that white line and I am just looking forward to the next game now."
Elliot Lee scored an 88th minute winner but there was still time for Fletcher to come close to scoring with a shot that was deflected behind for a corner
"When Elliot gets the ball on the edge of the box, you have always got to show a little bit of an angle for him and I did," he said.
"He played it to me and I could see him wanting the ball back but I got a shot off and it was unlucky."
Manager Phil Parkinson, who saw star striker Paul Mullin make his comeback from injury as a substitute against Doncaster, is not short of attacking options.
Fletcher is relishing the competition for a starting place and is looking forward to making a contribution in what he hopes is a successful campaign for Wrexham.
"It is down to me to work hard in training to show the manager that I credit a start," he added.
"The boys have been great and to get a win on my debut was lovely.
"We have got a great group of boys and we will take each game as it comes because it is a long season but I am looking forward to it.
"There is a great buzz about the place and the fans were in great voice, they were fantastic all game."
