ANDY CANNON says there was immense pressure on Wrexham to deliver the goods this season and the midfielder hailed his team-mates for stepping up to the plate.

Phil Parkinson’s men were installed by bookmakers as big favourites for automatic promotion heading into the 2022-23 campaign.

But the Reds have enjoyed a remarkable season and secured the National League title by beating Boreham Wood 3-1 at The Racecourse on Saturday.

Cannon won automatic promotion for a second year in a row having helped Stockport County pip Wrexham to top spot during a loan spell from Hull City last term and he says the Reds deserve credit for what they’ve achieved after being pushed all the way by Notts County.

“There is 10 times more pressure playing for Wrexham than anyone else in this league," said Cannon, brought in from Hull in December.

“The expectations here and there’s also a lot of people who don’t want us to win on top of that so there is a lot more pressure winning it here.

“But we have done it and we have been relentless all season so fair play to the boys who have done it for the full season and I hope I have played my part as well.

“Getting 110 points on the board isn’t easy, it is not easy to win games of football, but we been relentless this season and it is fully deserved.

“I hope Notts County go up as well because they are the second best team in the league.”

Boreham Wood took the lead after just 45 seconds but Wrexham turned things around to wrap up the title with one game to go.

“It obviously got us going,” added Cannon.

“We know we can’t start games like that but the main thing is we won and we won the league, and it is good to see all the fans happy.”
