LAST year’s hurt of missing out on promotion will be Wrexham’s biggest weapon this time around, according to former Welsh international Malcolm Allen.

Wrexham head into the final month of the season as favourites to win the National League title and Allen, now a pundit with S4C’s Sgorio, said: “You’re never there, until you’re there.

“Yes, they made some excellent signings last week with Ben Foster and Billy Waters joining for the final push.

“But it’s the pain of falling short last year that will turn out to be Wrexham’s real secret weapon this time around.

“The squad is certainly stronger than the one that went into the play-offs last season.

“Everyone is still fit. Paul Mullin is still scoring, even after all these games.

“The finish line is almost in sight, and they will need to learn how to deal with their nerves.

“The Notts County players will have counted on the Reds to falter at some point over the last few weeks, but they have remained focused and consistent.

“They have shown no sign of nerves in these games – and at this stage of the season, every game is a big game.

“I said a couple of months ago that Wrexham would win the league when they beat Notts County on April 10.

“It could go maybe to the week after – but it’s certainly in Wrexham’s hands now.

“They have the momentum and confidence behind them, and I have no doubt that they have the determination in that dressing room to finally get out of the National League”
