WREXHAM and Flint Town United suffered semi-final agony as they both bowed out of the competition in dramatic fashion.

Penybont goalkeeper Jack Jenkins proved Wrexham’s nemesis, with a stunning display of goalkeeping at Latham Park in Newtown, to end the young Reds’ hopes of reaching a first Welsh Youth Cup final since 2010.

Having almost single-handedly kept Wrexham at bay in a goalless draw during normal time, the 19-year-old custodian then produced three saves from the spot to clinch a 3-2 penalty shoot-out success.

Jenkins (pictured below) saved spot-kicks from Owen Cushion, Aaron James and Caleb Hughes to earn his side a place in the final against The New Saints.

The Saints, whose first team had clinched a 15th Welsh title two days earlier, ended Flint’s dream in a 4-3 thriller at Airbus.

That tie also looked as if it was heading for penalties but after Flint’s Morgan Roberts had been red carded 12 minutes from time, Josh Roseberry-Beamond hit a winner in the sixth minute of stoppage-time.

Roseberry-Beamond had put TNS 3-2 up in a game that saw Flint’s Harvey Drazdauskas also score twice.

Ben Hughes also netted for Danny Bell’s Flint but The Saints made it through.

Wrexham’s Head of Youth Dan Nolan praised his players for coming so close to making it to the final on what promises to be a big season of celebrations for the club.

“It’s obviously disappointing but the message to the lads in the changing room was ‘well played, you couldn’t have done much more,” said Nolan.

“We created loads of chances, and, on another day, we could have won four or five-nil. Other than actually scoring I don’t think we’d have changed anything.

“Their objective of trying to keep it tight, be compact, not allowing us to play through them, from their perspective worked well. That said, their keeper still had to make six or seven saves, two of which were excellent. Had we got that goal then I think the game would have opened up.”

Connah’s Quay Nomads’ surge towards a second Cymru Development North title continued with a 3-1 win at Newtown - in a game that was played after Wrexham’s defeat at the mid-Wales venue.

Despite having captain Leon Bennett sent off and Bradley Barnes miss a penalty, Lucan Hogan’s double and one from Alfie Vaughan pushed Nomads, who have won all 22 of their league games, 15 points clear of second-placed TNS in the table.

Airbus drew 0-0 at Llandudno and Bala last 3-1 at Caernarfon.

In the Flintshire U19s League, Kieron Jones, Ben Peters and Ben Williams gave Brymbo Lodge a 3-2 win at Gronant, who hit back through Cory McHale and Jenson Wold.
