JORDAN DAVIES has had to bide his time for a return to the starting XI but the midfielder has not complained because his team-mates have been "absolutely brilliant" in the push for automatic promotion.

The 24-year-old, who hails from Coedpoeth, sustained a serious knee injury in the 4-1 FA Cup second round win against Farnborough on November 26 that kept him out of action for three months.

Since making his comeback in February, Davies has appeared as a substitute on six occasions but he was back in the side for Saturday’s trip to Bromley because Elliot Lee was missing through illness.

Davies helped Wrexham register a 2-1 win to stay top of the National League, three points ahead of Notts County with a game in hand.

Phil Parkinson’s side are also unbeaten in 26 league matches and being in such good form means Davies accepts he has had to be patient for his chance in the team.

“Obviously it has been a long time since I started a game but I have been back for long enough now,” said Davies.

“The boys have been doing really well so I have just been supporting off the bench when I can and when called upon.

“But it was brilliant to start against Bromley and more importantly, brilliant to get the three points.

“If the lads weren’t getting the results and been brilliant like they have been, I would have had more conversations with the gaffer about starting.

“But the lads have been absolutely brilliant for months now; I have just waited patiently and when called upon, I have just been ready to go and do the best for my team whenever I do get subbed on or called upon.”

Leading scorer Paul Mullin bagged a brace at Hayes Lane to seal victory and take his tally for the season to 40 goals.

It was Wrexham’s third win in as many outings on an artificial pitch this season, a record that Davies is delighted with as the latest success keeps the Reds in pole position for the title.

“It was a massive win,” said Davies.

“Bromley is a really tough place to go and to get nine points on the road like we have this season on 4G pitches speaks highly of us as a club and how far we have come.

“We have usually struggled on 4G pitches but we have put it to bed this year and won every game on them.”

Wrexham have eight games remaining, starting with Saturday’s clash against York City at The Racecourse, but Davies is not getting carried away despite being in such a strong position.

“Nothing changes from our point of view,” he added.

“No matter what Notts County do, we just go into every game wanting to win and that is what we will continue to do.

“These are exciting times but we have been excited all year.

“The marathon is slowly coming to an end and we won’t stop until the marathon is right at the end, and hopefully we are on top.”
