PHIL PARKINSON never doubted his players would get straight back into the swing of things after being given a welcome breather.

Wrexham didn't have a Tuesday fixture last week so Parkinson gave his players extra time off following a gruelling schedule that had seen the Reds play on six of the previous seven midweeks and also have Saturday matches.

The chance to recharge the batteries was well deserved and the Reds responded by beating Bromley 2-1 at the weekend to move three points ahead of title rivals Notts County with a game in hand.

Parkinson knew his players would be raring to go at Hayes Lane where Paul Mullin's brace secured victory to extend the unbeaten league run to 26 games and keep Wrexham in pole position with eight matches remaining.

"Last week was so important for the lads because they'd given us a lot and we switched them off mentally and physically, we gave them a couple of days off," said the Reds' boss.

"We said to them, we have had that breather and now we have got to switch back on.

"That is really important and they did that.

"They needed the break last week, they are great professionals and they all looked after themselves.

"What is always important when they are in for training, even though it is only a short duration, the standards are really high and they were great last week.

"As a manager you can always sense when there is a focus in the group."

Wrexham don’t have a game tonight although the Reds are due to be represented in the C international fixture between England and Wales at Altrincham’s Moss Lane ground.

Sam Dalby has been called up by England but Parkinson said the striker could pull-out if he continues to be stricken by the sickness bug that has affected some of his Wrexham team-mates, with Elliot Lee missing the win at Bromley.

"Ollie Palmer had sickness and diarrhoea, and Sam was going to start at Bromley," added Parkinson.

"But he'd been up all night being sick so we kept him out of the dressing room prior to the game.

"Sam is such a great lad, I said to him that I would like him on the bench and he said 'I don't feel great but I want to play my part', and he did when he came on.

"We need to assess him because we have got a bit of sickness in the camp and if there is any doubt, we will have to pull him out."
