BEN TOZER says grinding out a 1-0 win against Southend United meant just as much as Wrexham putting Dagenham and Redbridge to the sword.

Phil Parkinson’s men dug deep to secure a narrow victory over the Shrimpers with a 38th minute own goal proving the difference between the sides.

That came four days after Wrexham produced their best away display of the season as they beat the Daggers 4-0 and Tozer is pleased the Reds have shown they can win in different ways.

“We all dug in on the pitch,” said Tozer, with success against Southend keeping Wrexham four points ahead of title rivals Notts County with nine games to go.

“It wasn’t the prettiest of games but it was a satisfying result and a great performance.

“I think that was better than Tuesday in other ways.

“It was pretty on the eye at Dagenham but we dug in against Southend, I don’t think they had a shot on target. It was a proper performance.

“You have got to win every which way possible; we score from set-pieces, we score penalties, free-kicks, from open play.

“We have been free flowing at times but to win in the way that we have is brilliant.”

Tozer had a hand in the goal, with the 32-year-old’s cross palmed into his own net by Southend goalkeeper Steve Arnold under the challenge of Paul Mullin.

“I will take an assist!” joked Tozer.

“I was annoyed with my cross, I thought it was a poor cross.

“I said to Mulls that you turned a bad cross into a good one so cheers for that.”

Tozer was delighted to keep a clean sheet with Wrexham showing perseverance to keep out Southend.

“There has been so many times this season where we have won 3-1 or 4-1 and conceded fairly late on,” he said.

“It almost takes the shine off the performance so to get the clean sheet is so satisfying.”

Back to back wins was the perfect response to Wrexham conceding a late equaliser and having to settle for a 2-2 draw at Maidenhead.

“Maidenhead was a bit of a kick in the teeth, it felt like a loss in some ways,” said Tozer.

“It is great to respond the way that we have.”

Wrexham and County are battling it out for automatic promotion but you won’t find Tozer worrying about the Reds’ title rivals during the run-in.

“We have just got to worry about Saturday,” added Tozer, with Wrexham away at Bromley this weekend.

“It sounds boring but that is the way we have to approach it.

“Not that I don’t care how Notts County get on but it is all about us.

“It is about how we go again on Saturday because there is no point us worrying about them, we have just got to worry about ourselves.”
