WREXHAM made the most of their game in hand as they beat Dagenham and Redbridge 4-0 to open up a four point lead over title rivals Notts County.

Phil Parkinson's side went into the clash at Victoria Road knowing they could full further away from the Magpies who weren't in action.

There was no hangover from the Reds who conceded a late equaliser at Maidenhead on Saturday to draw 2-2 as they turned on the style and enjoyed a convincing win against the Daggers.

Wrexham controlled the first half and led 2-0 at the break thanks to goals from the recalled Ollie Palmer and Jordan Tunnicliffe.

Palmer struck again after the break to move onto 17 goals for the campaign and Jacob Mendy also got in on the act to complete a comfortable victory that extended the Reds' unbeaten league run to 24 games.

Both Wrexham and Notts County have games on Saturday while the Magpies play next Tuesday when Parkinson's men have the night off.

But the Reds will then have a game in hand and know they have given themselves some breathing space at the summit following an excellent evening in east London.

With 10 fixtures remaining, the quest for automatic promotion is very much in Wrexham's hands!

Parkinson made four changes from the side that drew against Maidenhead at the weekend.

Goalkeeper Rob Lainton, absent at York Road due to illness, returned in place of Mark Howard while Eoghan O'Connell took over from Max Cleworth in defence.

Midfielder James Jones replaced captain Luke Young, who was rested and missed just his second league game of the season, and Palmer came back into the attack in place of Sam Dalby.

A problem with the goalposts at one end meant kick-off was delayed but when the game got underway, Wrexham made the perfect start by taking a sixth minute lead.

O'Connell ventured forward and supplied a cross which was volleyed home by Palmer.

Buoyed by the goal, Elliot Lee's curling effort only just cleared the bar while Wrexham had a let-off when Inih Effiong got in behind the Reds defence and Jay Bird fired wide from a good position.

Josh Hare could only direct a free header straight at Lainton but Wrexham came through the Daggers' bright spell with their lead in tact and it was the Reds' turn to have chances.

Ryan Barnett's cross was cleared to Jones whose low drive went through the legs of Elliot Justham and hit the post, with the goalkeeper gratefully pouncing on his loose ball on his goal-line, and Andy Cannon not far away with shot from outside the area.

But Wrexham made it 2-0 in the 39th minute.

Lee sent in a corner and Tunnicliffe did well to direct his header into the back of the net.

A third goal nearly arrived when Ben Tozer's throw-in was flicked on by Daggers wing-back Myles Weston and Palmer headed wide.

But Wrexham went 3-0 up four minutes into the second half.

Barnett sent in a low cross and Palmer got in front of his marker to fire past Justham.

There was no let-up from Wrexham who were hungry for more goals.

Palmer played a one-two with Paul Mullin and his shot was deflected wide for a corner.

But the fourth goal came on 68 minutes.

Lee played a superb pass out to Mendy who raced into the area and slotted past Justham.

Wrexham kept pressing and Jones hit the post while a good move ended with substitute Callum McFadzean's effort turned behind by Justham.

There were no more goals and the Reds go marching on.
