Welsh star Cory Jones came out on top against English champion Leo Wood on points in the Home International bout.
The two have met twice before, winning one each but Jones, from the Cefn Mawr-based Maelor Boxing Club, settled the score much to the delight of his coach Butch Jones.
“Cory got on top in the second round with Leo holding and the referee giving Leo a public warning,” said Jones.
“Cory was the far better boxer taking the third round with Colin Jones, the Welsh national coach, saying it’s the best he’s seen Cory box.
“And to Leo’s credit he said Cory had improved.”
