THERE was penalty shoot-out woe for Wrexham who exited the FA Trophy against Altrincham at Moss Lane.

The fourth round tie finished 2-2 after 90 minutes but Altrincham won 4-3 on spot-kicks to progress to the last 16.

Altrincham were well on top in the early exchanges and took the lead but Jake Bickerstaff scored twice in three minutes to put Phil Parkinson's side 2-1 up at the break.

It was an end to end contest but it looked like the Reds, with a totally different side to the one that started Tuesday's 2-1 league win against Bromley, would be in the hat for Monday's fifth round draw.

However, Altrincham scored a late equaliser and then prevailed in the shoot-out.

Wrexham players got valuable game-time but the Trophy is low down on the list of priorities for the National League title contenders.

Here's how the players rated:

ROB LAINTON: One brilliant save of note to tip a shot onto the bar in the first half. 6

REECE HALL-JOHNSON: Fantastic goal-line clearance at 1-0 but has been more of a threat down the right. 5

MAX CLEWORTH: The defence was put under a lot of pressure early on by Altrincham who were well on top at the start. 6

HARRY LENNON: Did a good job and will benefit from playing a full game following his injury problems. 6

SCOTT BUTLER: Produced a solid performance in the heart of the defence on his first team debut. 7

LIAM MCALINDEN: The wing-back had a mixed night down the left flank. 5

JAMES JONES: FA Trophy might not be the priority but the midfielder’s energy levels didn’t dip. 7

ANDY CANNON: Showed glimpses but is still lacking match fitness and 90 minutes will do him good. 6

DAVID JONES: Not the most mobile but great vision with passing. 6

JAKE BICKERSTAFF: Made the most of his chance once again and the man of the match took his two goals brilliantly. 7

SAM DALBY: Linked up well with Bickerstaff and had hand in the second goal for his strike partner. 6

SUBSTITUTES

RYAN AUSTIN: It was good to see him get on following injury. 5

AARON JAMES: Late substitute for his debut. 5
