YOU won’t hear James Jones complaining if he is handed a starting berth in tonight’s FA Trophy fourth round tie against Altrincham.

Wrexham won 2-1 against Bromley on Tuesday to maintain the title challenge and manager Phil Parkinson is set to name a different team at Moss Lane.

That means Jones, who came off the bench to score the winner in midweek and extend the Reds’ unbeaten run to 19 games, is set to earn a recall following a spell as a substitute.

The Trophy is low down on the list of priorities - Wrexham also have an FA Cup fourth round home tie against Sheffield United to look forward to - but Jones just wants to play matches whatever the competition.

“Every footballer wants to play games,” said Jones

“I don’t think lads will be thinking of it as ‘oh, it’s that cup’.

“You want to play as much football as possible. You want to play games and you want to win games.

“We all know the league is the priority but it is good to keep that momentum going.”

Jones has been involved in all 25 league games this season, although he has been a substitute in the last four fifth tier matches.

Having also appeared as replacement in Saturday’s brilliant 4-3 win against Championship side Coventry City in the third round of the FA Cup, his last start came in the 3-1 FA Trophy third round victory against Scunthorpe United on December 21 but Jones will be ready to go when called upon.

“I am there for the team and whatever the gaffer needs me to do, I will do my best to do that,” he added.

“There’s good quality across the squad so it is going to happen.

“There will be times where players are going to be in, players are going to be out.

“We are going to need everyone throughout the season so when I am called upon, I will do what I can to help the team.”
