PAUL MULLIN quickly set his sights on scoring 100 goals for Wrexham after reaching the half-century mark.

The striker joined the Reds from Cambridge United in the summer of 2021 and found the back of the net 32 times during his first campaign at The Racecourse.

There has been no let-up from Mullin this season and the 28-year-old scored his 50th goal for the club when he opened the scoring in Saturday’s 4-1 FA Cup second round win against Farnborough.

Mullin went on to complete his hat-trick, taking him to 52 Wrexham goals and on the way to realising his next target.

“It is a big thing for me getting 50 goals but I want to score more goals,” said Mullin.

“One day when I leave here, hopefully it is in the history books how many I get.

“It is a great achievement to get 50 goals but I will never stop at one, never mind 50 and never mind 100.

“Now it is on to try and get to the 100 mark as quick as I can and enjoy playing and winning games as we are.”

Mullin celebrated his second hat-trick in Wrexham colours having bagged his first treble in the 5-0 win over Maidstone on August 20.

“That’s my second Wrexham hat-trick and hopefully many more to come,” said Mullin.

“To get three goals is a tough thing to do in football and as I said after my first one, it is something that should be celebrated.

“It has taken me 18 months to get two hat-tricks, that is two this season but hopefully more to come.”

Mullin praised his team-mates for the part they played in his goals against Farnborough, with the frontman making it 1-0 from Sam Dalby’s flick-on before benefitting from two assists by Callum McFadzean.

“It is not about me, it is about the team,” said Mullin.

“We worked really hard against Farnborough and the lads have got to create chances for me to able to score them.

“Callum put two on the plate for me and the first one is a lucky reach of the leg after Sam Dalby flicked the ball towards goal.

“It is about the lads, not me, and our aim this year is to try and get promotion but a cup run is something for the fans to enjoy as well.”

Success with Wrexham, who are National League leaders heading into Saturday’s game at York City, comes before personal accolades for the prolific striker.

“Ultimately, I want to be in the history books about success; getting the team higher up the leagues and hopefully going further in the FA Cup,” added Mullin.

“Promotion is what we are after but we work hard all season and it is nice to have days like Saturday where you can enjoy playing games a little bit more without the stress of losing.”
