PHIL PARKINSON would love a home tie against one of the Premier League giants in the FA Cup third round.

Wrexham are in the hat for tonight's draw following Saturday's 4-1 win over Farnborough at The Racecourse.

The Reds were made to work hard for their victory against the National League South side who equalised after Paul Mullin had put Parkinson's men ahead early in the second half.

But Elliot Lee's stunning strike put Wrexham back in the lead and Mullin went onto complete his hat-trick late on to secure a second round victory.

The draw takes place tonight live on BBC Two at 7pm - Wrexham are ball number 46 - with ties played between Friday January 6, 2023 and Monday January 9, 2023.

Parkinson said: "Financially, getting a big draw away is great for the club.

"On a purely football basis, I would like to see us tested here at home against one of the big boys because I think the town deserves that.

"We have had some great moments in the history of the club and it would be fantastic to pull one of the big boys out of the hat but let's wait and see."

Wrexham are flying high at the top of the National League and while the promotion challenge is the priority, Parkinson is delighted to keep the cup run going.

"For the owners, all the supporters and the players, once you get in round two and you have got that carrot of the third round draw, you want to get over the line and get in it," said the Reds' boss.

"The opportunity to pull one of the big boys out of the hat is there for us now.

"We all know the league is so important for us but momentum and confidence is important as well."

Wrexham maintained their 100 per cent home record but victory was marred by a serious knee injury sustained by midfielder Jordan Davies who was stretchered off just before half-time.

"That is the downside for us," added Parkinson. "It doesn't look good.

"Obviously we won't know until he has a scan but fingers crossed for Jordan.

"It is a real shame for him."
