WREXHAM beat Farnborough 4-1 at The Racecourse to reach the FA Cup third round.

All the goals came in the second half with Paul Mullin scoring a hat-trick in the second round victory.

Mullin broke the deadlock with his 50th goal for the club and although National League South side Farnborough levelled, Elliot Lee put Phil Parkinson's side back in front and Mullin bagged two more goals to put Wrexham in the hat for Monday's draw.

Parkinson made three changes from the side that started the 2-0 win against Aldershot the previous weekend which took Wrexham to the top of the National League.

Liam McAlinden replaced the injured Bryce Hosannah in the right wing-back position while midfielder Jordan Davies took over from James Jones.

The other change was in attack where Sam Dalby came in for Ollie Palmer who was rested, just like he was in the previous round win against Oldham, with the striker named among the substitutes along with Jones.

There was also a place on the bench for fit-again trio Reece Hall-Johnson, Anthony Forde and Jacob Mendy following spells on the sidelines.

Wrexham went straight at Farnborough and created the first opportunity in the fifth minute but Mullin scuffed his shot from inside the area after good work by McAlinden and Lee.

There was another opening when Luke Young's corner reached Ben Tozer whose effort was parried by keeper Jack Turner and from the resulting flag-kick, Aaron Hayden headed wide.

Davies then had two chances in quick successive.

Young's corner found the unmarked midfielder whose shot was saved by Turner and his follow-up was also blocked by the goalkeeper who was proving his worth.

Oliver Pendlebury brought a first save out of Mark Howard at the other end but Wrexham were quickly back on the offensive as Dalby held off his marker and only just cleared the bar with a drive from just outside the area.

Jonathan Page's shot was only just too high for Farnborough but Parkinson was forced into a change in first half injury time when Davies was stretchered off and replaced by Jones.

An improvement was needed by Wrexham after the break and the Reds took the lead in the 49th minute.

Young's corner was flicked on and Mullin converted from close range.

Wrexham went close to another goal when Jones played in McFadzean whose low drive fell just wide.

But Farnborough equalised in the 62nd minute as Pendlebury found the back of the net with a free-kick that Howard was unable to keep out.

Parkinson responded by making a double substitution with Palmer and Forde coming on for Dalby and Liam McAlinden respectively.

But Howard was called into action to pull off a brilliant save to deny Selim Saied following good interplay by the visitors.

However, Wrexham made it 2-1 in the 78th minute.

Mullin's cross was only cleared as far as Lee who hammered the ball past Turner.

Wrexham scored a vital third goal just four minutes later.

McFadzean sent in a brilliant cross and Mullin scored from close range.

Mullin, on a hat-trick, was immediately put through on goal but the striker fired wide.

However, Wrexham made it 4-1 in the 90th minute.

McFadzean set up Mullin who volleyed home.

Howard pulled off a superb late save but Wrexham proved too strong in the end.
