PROMOTION is the priority but Phil Parkinson wants Wrexham to experience the excitement of being in Monday's FA Cup third round draw.

That is the reward for the Reds if they can overcome National League South outfit Farnborough in tomorrow's round two tie at The Racecourse.

Premier League and Championship sides enter the competition at the third round stage and Parkinson would love his side to be involved.

"You can't hide away from it. Of course we know the league is our priority but the excitement of being in the third round draw is something we would all like to be involved in," said the Reds' boss.

"But Farnborough will probably say the same.

"We have got to round two, we have worked hard to get here and now the aim is to get us in the hat for round three.

"Then it will be fingers crossed that we can get a draw which the club deserves."

Wrexham boast a proud history in the FA Cup, with the 2-1 victory over reigning league champions Arsenal in 1992 considered as one of the greatest giant-killings of all time, and it is not lost on Parkinson.

"I said to the lads leading into the last cup game that you have got to respect the history of the club," he added.

"When you see people like Mickey Thomas around here on match days, and we always have chat with him, players like that are steeped in the tradition of this club in the FA Cup.

"We have got to show that respect and I feel we have done, the Oldham game in particular when I thought we were excellent.

"We played really well and we will have to do the same at the weekend but it is a game we are absolutely relishing.

"It will be another good crowd here and we have got to put on a show for our supporters again.

"We know we have got to work hard but also play with the quality; we have played some excellent football certainly the last couple of home games and looked a real threat."
