PHIL PARKINSON wanted a win going into a two-week break from league action and he got his wish as Wrexham beat Aldershot Town 2-0 to return to the top of the table.

First half goals from leading scorer Paul Mullin and James Jones secured a comfortable victory as the Reds extended their unbeaten run to 11 games in all competitions and maintained the 100 per cent record at The Racecourse.

Wrexham also reclaimed the leadership after Notts County were held to a goalless draw by Yeovil..

Next up is Saturday's FA Cup second round home tie against Farnborough and Parkinson just wanted to go into the clash on the back of a win before his side resumes the promotion challenge at York City on December 3.

"Every game has it's own added importance," said Parkinson.

"I said to the lads, we go into this game and the result we have got to sit back on in terms of league form for two weeks because the FA Cup is next week.

"But we can go into that and really enjoy it after another good win.

"It is important that we went into it with another victory. That's what the aim was.

"We spoke about the areas in our game we had to do well and I felt we did them.

"We played well; first half we were excellent and second half, the start was really good and it petered out a little bit towards the end.

"But I thought we put a lot of effort into the game."

The lead in the race for the title has changed hands over the last couple of weeks but Parkinson is not getting carried away with his side going back to the summit.

"All I am bothered about is us winning and that is what we have done," he added.

"This industry is about winning games and performing well.

"That is what we enjoy doing and the supporters can go into work with a spring in their step.

"I am just pleased with the way we went about our business, I thought it was a thoroughly professional display."
