CALLUM MCFADZEAN wants to build on a memorable week by helping Wrexham continue the promotion challenge with another win against Scunthorpe United tonight.

The wing-back missed last Tuesday’s 1-0 win against Maidenhead United as his wife was ready to go into labour but he returned to the side on Sunday and played his part as the Reds beat Oldham Athletic 3-0 to progress to the FA Cup second round.

Parkinson actually arrived at The Racecourse ahead of the Magpies clash but was given permission by manager Phil Parkinson to be at the birth of his son.

“I was literally five minutes away from the ground and my missus rang so I knew the baby was on the way,” said McFadzean.

“I got to the ground and spoke to the gaffer. He said get yourself off, you can’t miss that.

“I went home and then we were off to hospital; we had our second boy.

“It was a class week, it couldn’t have gone any better so I am buzzing.

“I just want to keep building on my game.

“The more games you play, the sharper and fitter you get so I am pleased to be getting some games.”

Wrexham produced a superb performance against Oldham with McFadzean going close to scoring his first goal for the club in the first half following a brilliant move.

“I was gutted because the build-up was great,” said McFadzean.

“It was just unfortunate that he blocked it on the line.

“It was a good, professional performance from the lads.

“We knew they would come out in the second half and give it a good go because they probably got a good rollicking in the changing room but we just needed to stay strong and that the game would open up again for us.”

Leading scorer Paul Mullin grabbed a brace either side of the break after fellow striker Sam Dalby opened the scoring and McFadzean was also delighted the Reds kept a third clean sheet in a row.

“As a back five, we want to get more clean sheets than we have but it is coming now and we are still scoring goals,” he added.

Promotion is the priority, with second placed Wrexham hot on the heels of leaders Notts County.

But McFadzean is keen to keep progressing in the FA Cup and would love to beat National League South side Farnborough, who will visit The Racecourse in round two, and land a plum tie against one of the Premier League giants.

“Everyone wants to play the big boys. That is what football is all about, the big occasions and playing the best of the best,” said McFadzean.

But the immediate focus in on lowly Scunthorpe and attempting to pick up another league win in the race for the title.

“Regardless of the competition, we go out every game to win,” added McFadzean.

“It was another game against Oldham where we have gone out and done the job.

“We just need to keep it going.

“We are in good shape at the minute, we just need to take that into the Scunthorpe game and keep putting the performances in.”
