PHIL PARKINSON praised his side's attacking threat but admits the defending left a lot to be desired as Wrexham beat Barnet 7-5 in an unbelievable encounter at The Racecourse.

Aaron Hayden gave Wrexham an early lead but Barnet turned things around to lead 2-1 with a quickfire double.

The Reds hit back to go 3-2 up at the break thanks to Tom O'Connor's deflected free-kick and Paul Mullin strike but the Bees levelled early in the second half.

Wrexham then pulled clear as Mullin, Luke Young, Hayden and Ollie Palmer found the back of a net in an 11-minute period to put Wrexham 7-3 ahead, although the visitors weren't done as they grabbed two goals to reduce the deficit by the final whistle.

Victory meant Wrexham bounced back from Tuesday's 1-0 defeat at Notts County which ended an eight game unbeaten run and keeps the Reds second in the National League, one point behind the Magpies.

Parkinson liked a lot of what he saw in front of nearly 10,000 supporters at The Racecourse but knows there are areas for improvement.

"Positives are some of the attacking play was terrific," said Parkinson.

"Elliot Lee's first home start, I thought he was outstanding.

"We looked very dangerous, always believing we could score.

"Obviously the negatives are that as a team we were lacklustre in our defending.

"It was almost the job is done. No it is not. You have got to go again and score.

"You can't play like that. We switched off defensively.

"Barnet have had games like that this season, I know watching the games that they are a dangerous team going forward.

"Of course, any manager who has scored seven will be delighted with one part of the team but not so with the other.

"We will review that on Monday and make sure we rectify what we weren't happy with, and improve on the areas that we can get better at."

Wrexham drew a blank in the top of the table defeat at Notts County despite creating numerous good chances in an end to end encounter.

Parkinson was pleased with the ruthlessness in front of goal as the Reds found their shooting boots against Barnet to maintain the 100 per cent home record.

"Tuesday was a strange game as much as today was because we can get can goals from all areas and all the key players had chances and didn't take them," said Parkinson.

"But today we were clinical.

"Some of the football, the weight of pass and all the things you look for was excellent so this is a good three points for us.

"It is another win here at The Racecourse but of course, we have got to get better."
